It all comes back to the corn dog, or at least a variation of it illustrative of how the state fair is still an environment ripe for culinary innovation. There’s a reason that the Texas State Fair is one of the most popular in the country. One of the newer reasons is the fry dog: a battered hot dog rolled in french fries then deep fried, served with a side of nacho cheese, of course. Combining french fries and hot dogs is the most American thing since napalm and cherry pie. Chef Brian Luscher has called it a dog that “screams America.” If you’re ever near Dallas during the state fair, it’s worth a stop just for this true blue beauty.
