Chives Door County in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin
This lakeside restaurant is paradoxical in the best of ways: It’s upscale with a menu you’d expect to find in a big city. Still, Chives — and its surrounding neighbors in Door County’s Baileys Harbor — are humble. Ask for a seat on the quaint patio, where you can dine under a string of lights and gaze out at Lake Michigan, which could be confused for an ocean because of its endless views. For a nightcap, head down the block to the Blue Ox, a one-of-a-kind watering hole with an attic-meets-pirate ship ambience and characters you won't soon forget.
Menu standout: The Mussels & Chips are a more-than-generous portion. Prince Edward mussels are served underneath an enormous heap of thin fries that are generously drizzled with a garlic herb butter sauce and chives.Back to top
