Yogurt is known for being full of “good” bacteria, also known as probiotics. The bacteria lining your gut and intestinal tract are responsible for creating a large portion of your immune response, so when you provide your body with plenty of “good” bacteria (like the lactobacillus and bifidobacterium found in yogurt), they can crowd out the “bad” disease-causing bacteria and help your body get rid of them before they make you sick.
Choose plain yogurt instead of flavored yogurt to avoid unnecessary added sugars, then top it with fresh fruit and nuts or blend it into a smoothie. Plain yogurt also makes a great alternative to cream in creamy pasta sauces, and easily replaces mayo or sour cream in chicken salad, potato salad, and creamy dips.
