Hemingway Bar, Paris
Why It’s a Standout: “Though now closed for renovations, the Hotel Ritz Paris has what one might call one of the most important cocktail bars in the civilized world,” says Michael Lomonaco, Executive Chef and Partner at Porter House New York and Center Bar. Indeed anticipation has been high for the Hemingway Bar’s supposed late-2014 reopening since it shuttered in April 2012. The original incarnation only had 34 seats and all sorts of writerly memorabilia, and the bar was always churning out inventive drinks with only the freshest of locally-sourced ingredients.
The Drink to Order: No one knows what the renovation will bring, but if you’re lucky Lomonaco’s favorite might still be on the menu, a bacon-enhanced Manhattan. “Instead of garnishing it with a cherry, they garnished it with a slice of caramelized bacon,” he adds. “It was a whimsical but delicious Manhattan, to say the least.”
