A Macallan old enough to collect social security is nothing to ignore. Macallan’s limited Lalique-clad offerings over the last decade have been truly extraordinary, but nothing was quite like the bottles put out this year. The whisky inside was a piece of history itself: a gentle hint of peat, normally uncharacteristic of Macallan, was present because the distillery was forced to use it for several years after World War II. Gone but not forgotten.
