An IPA isn’t usually the kind of beer that you drink in great quantities. Famously hoppy craft beers like Stone’s IPA, Dogfish Head’s 90 minute IPA, or Odell Brewery’s take on the style are the kind that leave you wanting less.
What those beers also have in common is fairly high alcohol, anywhere from 7 percent to 9 percent in this group, which is typical for the traditional Imperial-style IPAs. You’re not going to easily knock down six of those in an afternoon. That’s why Founders Brewing Company’s All Day IPA is such a revelation. At 4.7 percent alcohol, it’s a truly drinkable beer.
The All Day was first released in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as a seasonal in early 2012, but in July 2013, Founders started brewing it year-round. And the beer started showing up in cans in June 2013 – the first ever canned beer from Founders.
The light alcohol perfectly matches the beer’s body and wheaty fizz, but not at the expense of the hoppy characteristics that define this beer as an IPA. Tangerine aromas and a thin white head lead to more complex flavors of grapefruit and mango elevated by a gentle bitterness that comes from Simcoe and Amarillo hops.
