Delicious IPA
Brewer: Stone Brewing
Style: American IPA
Like the best gluten-free brews should be, Stone’s Delicious IPA is a great beer in its own right that just happens to be celiac-friendly. It fits into Stone’s extensive line of hopped-up pale ales as a distinctive IPA. It’s strong, at 7.7-percent alcohol, and features roughly the same bitterness as the standard Stone IPA. But Delicious IPA’s hops taste more exotic and juicy with a little less bite.
Similar to the Omission line of beers from Portland, Oregon’s Widmer Brothers, Stone brews a traditional barley-based ale, then breaks down the gluten to celiac-acceptable levels. Because the beer uses barley, it’s technically gluten-reduced, not gluten-free. Fear not, Stone tests every batch of Delicious IPA (posting the results online), with every report finding less than 20 ppm of gluten — the threshold required of other products for the gluten-free label.
