7. Craigellachie 17-Year-Old
One of the few distilleries to still use old-fashioned worm tubs (a tank of cold water with a spiral copper pipe running through it) to cool the spirit, the Craigellachie’s 17-Year-Old single malt has an air of tradition and heavier character that other Scotches simply lack. Singular in both flavor (sweet fruit and honey on the nose, smoky with a touch of clove on the palate) and mouthfeel (syrupy), this meaty whisky stands on its own and is best served neat or on the rocks.
