November days are crisp and beautiful, and the nights are cold enough to warrant — if an excuse is actually needed — that extra scotch ale to cap off the evening. Winter warmers, the dark, spiced malty brews of British descent, are the most common seasonals to appear. But many brewers prefer to dip into stronger American, German, and Belgian styles. In fact, you'll see a number of "strong ales," which is a catch-all category for rich, flavorful beers that don't fit neatly in any style. So now that the last of the pumpkin brews are behind us, these beers will be filling their shelf space (if they haven't already). This November, you'll get everything from the last fresh-hop IPAs from the fall harvest, to Scotch ales, and even a Ben & Jerry's collaboration.
