You may think you’re being virtuous by choosing diet over sugar-packed regular soda, but you may just be better off (or at least not any worse off) going for the real deal.
Numerous studies have already proved that gulping down the artificially sweetened drink can hike up your risk for diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. But, if that wasn’t enough of a reason for you to steer clear, we now know the bev will also do major damage to your waistline. According to a recent study, researchers found participants who slurped a can of diet soda even just once a day watched their gut grow by three inches over a nine-year time period. On the contrary, those who never consumed the diet drink saw minimal (less than an inch) increase in waist circumference.
Kick the drink from your diet if you want to seriously sculpt those abs. And if you can’t give up your bubbly drink addiction, go for club soda or seltzer instead.
