The Gamer’s Guide to Nutrition

You want a balanced diet with plenty of carbs. When I was in my early 20s, I learned that I was an ectomorph, which means I burn a ton of calories because of my metabolism. Since carbs give me energy, I eat more of those—like sweet potatoes, quinoa, brown rice, and oatmeal—than I eat protein. That balance can be hard because of all the practice time with my team and playing on my own.

I really recommend sweet potatoes. I hated them growing up, but now I can’t live without this superfood. If I have two sweet potatoes, I’ll also have two chicken breasts.

Another one of my all-time favorites is my breakfast smoothie, which I have on days when I do legs and back. It’s a blend of almond milk, pomegranate juice, blueberries, banana, and peanut butter powder (as well as a few other secret ingredients).

It adds up to about 1,000 calories, but it definitely gives me the push I need for the day.
