4. Cook in advance
Don’t wait until an hour before your guests arrive to realize that your shrimp cocktail is still frozen. “The most important thing about cooking for a feast is to prepare ahead of time—even a few days ahead,” Mullen says. “Get your meats roasted, your vegetables cut, your soups made all in advance. Once guests arrive, you just have to reheat things and put them out. That way, you can spend your time properly hosting folks, and not scrambling to get the cooking done.”
