The martini is about as classic as it gets when it comes to cocktails—and for good reason.
The traditional martini is exceptionally simple—it’s just gin and vermouth, and garnished with an olive or lemon twist—yet there are a number of ways each guy can make it his own. Maybe you like it “dirty” (meaning you like to add a splash of olive juice). Perhaps you prefer it “dry” (meaning you make it with dry, white vermouth). Maybe you take a cue from James Bond and ask for it with a lemon twist—”shaken, not stirred.”
Regardless of your preference (and we know you’ve got one), the martini was designed not only to be a classic in itself, but also to act as a base for a number of different variations. This particularly spirited recipe, which gives off a little bit of heat thanks to the addition of a spicy pickled vegetable juice, may be perfect for summer—but it’ll warm you up all year long. (If you’re a fan of pickleback shots, this drink is especially for you.)
– 2 parts elit Vodka
– ½ part Trader Joe’s Spicy Pickled Vegetable Juice
– ½ part dry Vermouth
Shake all ingredients, and double strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a grapefruit peel.
