Here’s How to Make Mark Cavendish’s Favorite Protein Bar


You don’t have to be an award-winning chef or culinary mastermind to craft an energizing meal. British cyclist Mark Cavendish—often called the Usain Bolt of cycling—turns to this recipe for the foolproof fuel he needs to ride for miles at top speed.

1) In a rice cooker, add 16 oz of rice, 4 cups of water, a dash of sugar, 3.5 oz of shelled, chopped pistachios, and maybe a little vanilla for flavor. Let cook per your rice maker’s instructions.

2) When done, mix in 7–10 oz of cream cheese, then lay it
out on a tray, smooth down, cover in plastic wrap, and cool.

3) When cooled and set, cut it into 2-inch-square bars.
