“I’m dating a girl who doesn’t drink. I do, and I feel awkward enjoying a cokctail at dinner. What should I do?” —Jacob G., Salt Lake City, UT
Well, fellas, courtesy is the name of the game here. If her preference is to not sip a brewski at dinner, adapt to her request. Ask, “Mind if I order a drink?” I’ll bet she’ll be cool with it (and admire your gentlemanly ask). If not, enjoy her company without the drink. Or, meet in the middle—mix up a unique mocktail, like this one.
- ½ cup fresh lemon juice
- 1 ½ cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- 2 sprigs rosemary
- seltzer water
1) Begin by making lemon-rosemary simple syrup. In a small saucepan, combine lemon juice, sugar, water, and 2 rosemary sprigs. Simmer gently over low heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar has completely dissolved.
2) Continue to simmer for another 2 minutes. set mixture aside to cool. Discard rosemary sprigs.
3) To serve, fill glasses with ice. add 2 parts lemon-rosemary syrup to one part seltzer.
Makes: 4–6 servings
