Good bacteria can improve your digestion, immunity, and even heart health. Now a report in Psychiatry Research shows it may boost your mood as well.
Fermented foods like yogurt and sauerkraut, which are breeding grounds for healthy germs, are known to soothe the stomach. But a survey of 700 college students found that those who regularly ate those foods also had much less social anxiety than those who didn’t.
Why? A Texas Tech study recently found that some gut germs act as tiny psychiatric drug-making machines, pumping out beneficial neurochemicals.
So hit the fermented fare often (our addiction: Oikos Triple Zero yogurt) and let the microbes do their happy dance in your head.
