Maryland’s Flying Dog Brewery Releases “Alternative Facts” Beer

There’s more than one way to brew up alternative facts these days, especially if you have access to… an actual brewery, so the women behind Flying Dog are capitalizing on the trendy newspeak terminology with a new beer by the same name.

Alternative Facts is officially no longer just a term coined by Trump administration pundits looking to make murky waters of reality — it’s now a beer as well, specifically an Altbier, created and brewed exclusively by female members of the Maryland-based Flying Dog team.

The beer was brewed to benefit the Pink Boots Society, a nonprofit organization whose goal is to bring more women into the beer industry. Flying Dog’s Emily Greene told Eater DC, “We wanted to bring awareness to the Pink Boots Society and really bring awareness to women who work in breweries.”

For now they’ve rolled out 30 and a half kegs of the special release. Erin Weston, also of Flying Dog, told us, “It has a subtle malt aroma and flavors of biscuit malt and slight sweetness and smoke. The hop bitterness is also subtle, with just enough to balance out the malt, and the ale yeast strain finishes crisp and clean.”

If you want to try Alternative Facts, you’re going to have to plan accordingly. For now at least, the special release is a tasting room exclusive.
