9. St. George’s Lot 17 Single Malt Whiskey
Hailing from Alameda, California, this 2017 single-malt is drawn from a selection of 19 different barrels (including used bourbon barrels, along with American and French oak that had previously held sweet Port and dessert wine), ranging six to eight years in age.
The result is “a perfect balance between softness and strength of character,” says master distiller Lance Winters. You might pick up notes of pear, apricot, banana, Mexican chocolate, and hazelnut on the nose, with a light sweetness that evolves into candied citrus, dried fruit, cashew butter, and signature malted barley wash on the palate.
