Brewer: De Dolle Brouwers
Style: Flanders Brown Ale
On paper, Oerbier Special Reserva sounds so wild, you’d assume it hails from a cutting-edge American brewery. Instead, it’s a grand take on the Flemish brown sour ale style from Northern Belgium. De Dolle beers us its 9.5-percent Oerbier dark ale to 13 percent, then ages the beer for 18 months in wine barrels. The results if a wide-ranging character with everything from tart, dry wine notes to sweet fruity, and biting funky sourness.
