How to Make Peanut Butter

If you’re dropping $8 on all-natural peanut butter, note that there’s a better way. Go homemade. Making your own couldn’t be simpler.

In fact, the best peanut butter you’ve ever tasted has just one ingredient ingredient: peanuts.

Buy the highest quality organic, unsalted, roasted ones you can find, then follow these steps.

This method also works for pistachios, cashews, and walnuts, though if nuts are raw you’ll need to add ¼ to ½ cup of neutral oil (like grapeseed) and process butter longer to help it come together.

  • 4 cups of peanuts
  • Honey or maple syrup
  • Cinnamon
  • Salt
  • ¼ to ½ cup of neutral oil
Add 4 cups of nuts to a food processor and run on full power until butter starts to form, about 3 to 5 minutes for chunky, longer for smooth.
Optional: Add salt, a natural sweetener like honey or maple syrup, and/or spices like cinnamon if you’d like.
