Turns out, American National Parks are pretty inspiring. The symbiotic nature of good beer and good times outdoors cannot be denied, and regional craft brewer Rogue Ales has caught onto the trend: the Newport, Oregon–based brewery has partnered with Pendleton Woolen Mills to create a collaborative quad of can designs containing the recently released Pendleton Pale Ale.
The beer, brewed with Rogue Farms–grown malt and hops, is available in four limited edition cans, each dedicated to a different National Park: Crater Lake, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and Mt. Rainier. The smart designs, which feature bold, bright colors and an old-school style logo, were inspired by Pendleton’s National Parks Collection, specifically taking cues from the camping blankets’ stripes, according to Pendleton President Mort Bishop.
Said Rogue President Brett Joyce, “The National Parks revolutionized the outdoors. Rogue and our friends at Pendleton Woolen Mills collided to create Pendleton Pale Ale in a package that begs to be taken into the wild and shared with friends.”
Rogue’s new release isn’t the first beer can lineup to honor our National Parks. In February, Uinta Brewing announced their National Parks–inspired golden ale to be released in eight different can designs, touting the natural wonders of Yosemite, Yellowstone, Arches, Great Smoky Mountains, Acadia, Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountain, and Everglades National Parks.
Likewise, in 2014, Dogfish Head teamed up with Woolrich to release Pennsylvania Tuxedo, a pale ale brewed with 1,500 pounds of spruce tips hand-picked near the Woolrich mill in central Pennsylvania. The collaboration also included a limited edition capsule collection of co-branded products, including men’s and women’s flannels, men’s pajamas, hats, and other merchandise.
We’re certainly not against showing love for Mother Nature, and if you can coordinate your camping gear with your camping beer, even better. Next time you’re stopping for trail mix on the way to an epic jaunt, consider picking up some adventure-inspired brews. Just don’t forget to recycle, and maybe drink some water.
Rogue Pendleton Pale Ale is available in 12-ounce six-packs at select Rogue and Pendleton locations, as well as at select retail locations in Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, and Arizona. Hunt them down with the Rogue Beer Finder.
