4. Chocolate Milk
If you’re on a budget but still want to feed your muscles what they need after an intense workout, you can typically skip pricey protein powders and just grab a nice cold glass of chocolate milk instead. Often after you exercise, you’re thirsty but not hungry, so chocolate milk gives you the fluids that you need.
“Chocolate milk is an excellent recovery food,” says Clark. “The added carbohydrates from the chocolate help to refuel the muscles. The protein in the milk helps build and repair the muscles.” It also has sodium to replace any salt you lost in your sweat.
