Seafood shacks don’t need to be seaside, as this family-owned BYOB joint has been proving since 1948. Situated on the roadside off of Lake Michigan, right on the Illinois-Indiana border, Calumet is known the world over for its incredible smoked fish. Don’t be put off by the fact that it’s takeout-only – just park your car out front and order the smoked garlic and pepper salmon. Eat it while you’re perched on your car’s hood.
