Middendorf’s, Akers, LA.
Between Lakes Maurepas and Pontchartrain lies this channel-side home of “thin-cut” fried catfish. Here, for more than 75 years, Middendorf’s has been supplying locals with these little strips of heaven: breaded, fried, and covered in Crystal hot sauce just like “Mama Josie” used to do it. Over time, the menu’s expanded to also feature delicious shrimp and fish entrees, as well as a host of Louisiana staples like gumbo and frogs legs. And if that’s not enough to get you going, consider this: every year Middendorf’s goes all out for Christmas, converting the place into a full-on Winter Wonderland. Name another seafood shack that can say that.Back to top
