State Fair-Style Corn Dog
There no bun, but the fried cornmeal casing — yellow cornmeal is best — shares a similar purpose. The nature of the dog being fused within its breading does create a kind of condiment problem since there’s no great way put ketchup or mustard on the dog itself like you would a traditional one in a bun. Instead of this being a problem, this is just an opportunity to go in on some incredible dipping sauces. Mustard onion sauce, honey mustard sauce, spicy green onion dipping sauce (thanks Emeril), sriracha ketchup or a spicy fry sauce. The hot dog is derivative of the traditional German sausage, but the corn dog is a wholly American invention, and its natural proclivity for dipping has made it one of the best ways to eat a hot dog.
