Vermont: Heady Topper
Brewer: The Alchemist
Style: Double IPA
The style of beers now known as Northeast IPAs owe their existence to Alchemist’s Heady Topper, one of the first brews to pour bright and hazy with a ridiculous amount of aroma hops, forever distinguishing East Coast IPAs from their West Coast ancestors. Today, Heady Topper is piney and malt-forward by comparison to the nothing-but-juice hoppy brews, but it will always remain worthy of a sip or a chug in our book.
