Distilled In: The isle of Islay
Average Price (Per Under the Label): $57…. But can easily be found for under $50 via online wholesalers like this, and is worth the search.
Looks Like: Something more akin to un-aged white rye whiskey than the peaty beast it is.
Smells Like: Surprisingly soft and grassy.
Tastes Like: Peat, peat, and peat. And it’s why Ardbeg’s such a great bang for your buck, as popular peaty cousins like Lagavulin can set you back up to $30 more. Though admittedly (or perhaps as caution if you go light and sweet), Ardbeg’s a bit unrelenting with its roast.
Goes Well With: A bloody ribeye or seared link of encased meat. Or just a very, very cold winter night.
