Miami’s J. Wakefield Brewing is part of a recent trend where craft breweries are taking the festival reins. No one knows craft beer better than the people who make it, after all. At 2019’s WakeFest, the invitational had 120 breweries from all over the world. Owner Jonathan Wakefield says he asks every brewery to bring the best beers they’ve made within that year.
“You’re not only getting the best breweries, but the best offerings from those breweries,” Wakefield says. “If you look at RateBeer’s top 100 beers, you’ll see a large chunk of the breweries visiting us are on that list. We had seven of the top 10 one year at our festival.”
In addition to all that top-notch beer, WakeFest has a strong food truck lineup and music from great DJs. VIPs get access to catered food from some of the best chefs in Miami. Plus, Wakefield says, the weather is a key selling point.
“Miami in February is so hard to beat,” he adds. “We’re talking low humidity and 75 degrees with sunshine…It’s a welcoming change to wear flip-flops, shorts, and a T-shirt.”
And 2020’s festival will be extra celebratory as it will mark J. Wakefield Brewing’s fifth anniversary.Back to top
