Four Roses 2015 Limited Edition Small Batch
Official Word: Every year we get a special, barrel-strength sampling of the best Four Roses thinks they can offer. The brand has 10 different mash bills that they blend the Yellow Label with, and some (but not always all) make it to small batch. This year’s offering used four components, at ages between 11 and 16 years.
Word on the Street: This is the last limited-edition to be worked on by now-retired master distiller Jim Rutledge, and the first to be worked on by new master distiller Brent Elliott. Hard but possible to find, and if you’re a fan of the brand, probably the kind of bottle you want to buy more than one of, for the sake of posterity.
The Final Word: Floral from the rye, with notes of burnt sugar, molasses, and caramel. Takes a cube or a dash of water to calm it down so the flavors can take their time working around your mouth and your nose.
108 Proof; $119
