Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 2015
Official Word: Old Forester Birthday Bourbon is a once-a-year celebration of founder Garvin Brown’s birthday. The batch is always made from a single day’s production: in this case, whiskey from June 13, 2003, so you’ll never see that stock again. This is also the first year it’s been bottled at 100 proof.
Word on the Street: Good luck. Old Forester Birthday Bourbon is one of those wait-list products. Last year, master distiller Chris Morris didn’t even get a bottle (though we suspect he knew how to track one down). Hunt down a bar with it for sale if you want to sample. For full bottles, look to the aftermarket.
The Final Word: It’s an extremely complex whiskey with rich, earthy flavors like pipe tobacco, and a finish that’s spicy and nutty. Probably the best bottle in recent years.
100 proof; $70
