Single Grain Whiskey
A few select brands produce a light, spritely single grain whiskey. Typically considered a neutral spirit, it takes well to aging and really emphasizes the character of the wood it rests in. Teeling’s Single Grain is light and fruity, with tons of cinnamon and vanilla on the finish. Makes perfect sense, since this whiskey is finished in former red wine barrels from California. We also liked eight-year-old Greenore, which is aged in bourbon barrels for the duration of its life, and has many familiar bourbon notes, including a hint of pineapple and coconut.
