If ever a TV show deserved its own dedicated brew, it’s HBO’s lusty, blood-drenched series ‘Game of Thrones.’ This explains Brewery Ommegang‘s latest offering, Iron Throne Blonde Ale, which the company crafted in homage to the show. While it doesn’t contain dragonglass or weirwood, it’s a light and citrus-fueled sip for when the broadswords (and heads) start dropping.

The Cooperstown, New York-based brewery didn’t just slap an HBO label on an already established product: Ommegang brewmaster Phil Leinhart says his creation was inspired by the series, and is meant to reflect where things stand at the beginning of the show’s third season. Thus, for the sadistic rule of blonde king Joffrey Baratheon, he came up with this lightly-colored floral and lemony ale.

Tie-ins to the show aside, we bow down in allegiance to this excellent brew, and look forward to future installments – Ommegang plans to roll out a full line of ‘Thrones’-inspired beers as the season progresses. [Available starting March 31;]
