Chalice or Goblet
It’s not hard to tell what Trappist breweries are going for when they brand their glassware. The long stems and wide mouths on their chalices make for a dramatic presentation and recall the beer’s monastic origins. The delicacy of the glassware also inspires the drinker to slow down and be a bit more careful. Slow drinking makes for a more solemn and reflective atmosphere, in keeping with vows of silence, but also not a bad idea when some of the beers push over the 10 percent alcohol mark.
What it’s best for: Trappist ales that make drinking feel like a sacrament and taste like heaven.Back to top
