For those of you born before the movie-streaming era, seeing the iconic blue and yellow torn ticket Blockbuster logo can bring back waves of nostalgia. Those waves are usually followed by a Sno-Cap craving and an immediate urge to turn on your favorite childhood flick (which is obviously Jurassic Park). Luckily for the movie rental fans of the world, those sentimental feelings have finally been captured and bottled up as a craft beer.
The last Blockbuster standing in America, located in Bend, Oregon, has partnered with a local brewery to create a dark ale, appropriately named The Last Blockbuster. According to 10 Barrel Brewing’s press release, their creation not only pairs well with buttery popcorn and movie-sized chocolate but is also said to contain a hint of nostalgia, which I’m guessing tastes similar to the dust collecting on your DVD player.
A release party for the specially crafted beer will be thrown at the lone Blockbuster on September 21st and the brew will be available at both 10 Barrel Brewing locations in Bend for a limited time. For those not in the Oregon area, no word has been said yet about the beer’s release nationally. And if you’re planning on attending the party, don’t forget to be kind, rewind, and pour one out for all the Blockbusters we’ve had and lost.
