Anheuser-Busch InBev Buys 10 Barrel and Blue Point
Anheuser-Busch execs weren’t content to sit on the sidelines as craft beer ate away at the conglomerate’s market share. Since fewer and fewer folks want to drink Budweiser — to appeal to disinterested millennials, the brewery even dumped its iconic Clydesdales from advertising campaigns — ABI decided that if you can’t beat them, you might as well buy them. To accompany its 2011 purchase of Goose Island, the conglomerate bought Long Island’s long-running Blue Point and, more surprisingly, Pacific Northwest powerhouse 10 Barrel. Our bet: These will be far from the last buyouts. Money and desperation make for strange bedfellows.
