China’s Wine Love Makes Waves
China’s love for wine is well documented, with its citizens now drinking more red wine than all of France. (Once again, step it up, France.) China is also producing more wine than ever, with vineyards and chateaus cropping up across the countryside. While the quality of local wine is increasing every year, it’s China’s buyers that are making headlines. In October, a Hong Kong auction set the record for the most expensive lot of wine ever sold. The price: $1.6 million for 114 bottles of Romanee-Conti Burgundy. That breaks down to around $14,000 per bottle.
