The Club Soda Upgrade: Phocus Caffeinated Sparkling Water
Phocus is a caffeinated sparkling water with the heart of a club soda and the energy of three cups of green tea, and it might just be your new go-to for highball drinks. Here’s the science aspect: Phocus crafts its uplifting experience using a blend of tea caffeine, L-theanine and electrolytes. Like La Croix the flavors are subtle and refreshing, with slightly more subdued bubbles, but the experience isn’t a jittery one. We should know; we drank four of them in an evening and were neither shaky nor unable to sleep. We enjoyed the flavors on their own and could see them making some interesting cocktail combinations in the warmer months. Pay particular attention to Cucumber and Grapefruit, which are both fresh and not overpoweringly in flavor.
If you’re a Red Bull and vodka drinker, first take a long hard look in the mirror and ask why you’re like this. Then maybe consider switching to Phocus and making yourself a whiskey highball. We tried it with bourbon and a dash of lemon and bitters and were thrilled, but don’t stop there—there’s still gin and cognac to consider. The Cucumber and Yuzu and Lime flavors will be particularly welcoming to gin as the weather warms up. [$20/12-pack; drinkphocus.com]
