"Beercation" may not be in the dictionary yet, but a new index developed by Travelocity, in collaboration with the Brewers Association, offers beer enthusiasts a place to find deals for the best beer cities and beer-related activities.
Travelocity has announced the launch of its Beer Tourism Index, an official list of beer destinations across the U.S. compiled by the Brewers Association. The index will include information on the best beer cities and beer-centric activities across the nation, along with hotel and flight deals for beer travelers.
After examining each brewery in the country, the Brewers Association compiled two “top six” lists identifying “the best large and small metro areas to sample some of the nation's best craft beers.”
The “Top 6 Large Metro Areas” include Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton, OR-WA; Denver-Aurora, CO; Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, WA; Portland-South Portland-Biddeford, ME; Colorado Springs, CO; and Santa Rosa-Petaluma, CA.
“Top 6 Small Metro Areas” are Bend, OR; Boulder, CO; Fort Collins-Loveland, CO; Corvallis, OR; Missoula, MT; and Burlington-South Burlington, VT.
"Small and independent craft brewers are part of the DNA of their communities. They are becoming mainstay attractions for travelers," said Julia Herz, craft beer program director for the Brewers Association and publisher of CraftBeer.com. "Whether as part of a backyard getaway, a break from a business trip, or as the main reason for a beer-focused vacation, we encourage everyone to broaden their knowledge of beer by visiting these local brewers to experience firsthand the advancing beer culture across the country."
Beer travelers can search the index by town, navigating through hotel deals and hotel/flight packages, or with an eye toward entertainment, pointing to activities such as brewery tours, bar crawls, and beer and bicycling tours, all of which can be booked on the Travelocity website.
