The Perfect Mattress
If you buy one thing to improve your sleep, Shane says it should be a mattress. “It makes a major difference,” he says, adding that many people are sleeping on worn out mattresses and don’t realize it. David Wolfe, the CEO of high-end foam mattress company Leesa Sleep, says the average lifespan for a mattress is about 10 years, and, while some mattresses could last longer, you may not be getting ideal sleep on an aged one (it also could be unhygienic, since mattresses can trap dust and mold).
Unfortunately, there’s no one perfect mattress for the entire world. Personal preference reigns supreme. Even Wolfe, who owns a foam mattress company, says that spring mattresses can be just as nice if they’re what your body prefers. Right now though, foam mattresses are taking the world by storm and are worth trying. Wolfe says these mattresses are growing in popularity because memory foam provides unbeatable pressure relief, “which is what allows your muscles to rest.” Many companies (like Casper, which you can buy here) will ship a mattress in a box, give you a month-long trial period and have a free pickup and return policy if you don’t like it.Back to top
