Tech gets dressed.
There’s a sense at CES that early-adopting gadget guys are finally developing a sense of style. Case in point: a pair of elegant smart watches that don’t scream plastic-tech-fantastic. The first, called the Pebble Steel ($249; pictured), is a more svelte version of Pebble’s smash-hit e-ink timepiece available in matte black or brushed stainless steel. The second is the Martian Notifier ($129), which pairs high tech (an LED strip that displays notifications sent from your phone) with an old-school analog dial.
But it’s not watches alone that are fostering a fashion-conscious vibe in Vegas: Tech journalists are dressing better, too. The same blogger who would have been sporting a free Cisco Systems T-shirt in the early 2000s is now cruising the show floor in a skinny tie and a sportcoat. Maybe they heard about the trend around the corner. Chip manufacturer Intel announced a partnership with hip design house Opening Ceremony, Barneys New York, and the Council of Fashion Designers of America to develop handsome wearable tech.
