If you have a large backyard or patio, you can go big on the number of people you host, and the screen size. Our test venue was a somewhat compact Brooklyn patio — about 300 square feet — and the setup still worked great. Projectors are able to cast an image as big as 150 inches; we were able to manage an 80-inch screen with the projector only eight feet away. The other main difference between urban and suburban venues is ambient light and noise — the less there is of both, the better your sound and picture quality will be. One suggestion: Don’t just set up a bunch of folding chairs for your friends. What you want is the anti-theater — think blankets, beanbags, and even an old couch you keep in the garage. And swap the soda fountain for a keg.
