Garmin fēnix 6 Multisport WatchGET IT
In 2021, most of us don’t do much without our phones. We can have a philosophical debate about our tech dependency issues, but the reality is, we are pretty tied to constant communication and information—even for the most outdoor-minded.
But now imagine going for a run, a hike or a paddle without your phone and still being able to track our activity, get texts or listen to music. Garmin’s GPS based technology has raised information to a completely new level for an active lifestyle—with modes for every possible type of activity from running to SUP to fishing. When connected to your phone, you can literally get a breakdown of, “more stats than you know what to do with,” sent to readouts on the Garmin Connect app. (Their words, not ours.)
Most notable on the fēnix 6 is the number and effectiveness of the Sports Apps that you get through the app on your phone, specifically its new Surfline interface. Now you can not only track your surf session—waves, top speed, top distance, etc, but you can get Surfline reports on your phone. Then there’s the futuristic feature where Surfline records your waves and sends you a nifty little edit if you surf in front of one of their 700 surf cams around the world.
Next up in innovation is the music capabilities. When you download your music app through Garmin Connect (Spotify, Amazon, Deezer, iHeartRadio) you can load songs and playlists so you no longer need to take your phone with you for the tunes and podcasts that get you through a tough climb or ride. The stainless steel bezel is tested to U.S. military standards for thermal, shock and water resistance.
In addition to great style and durability, everything about the fēnix 6 is customizable. For better or worse, you literally could spend days fiddling with every display and function. But once you get it dialed, this watch pretty much gives you access to every part of your digital life including Garmin Pay, so now you’re not just leaving your phone behind, but your wallet. Until more technology is invented, the Garmin fēnix 6 pretty much has everything.—Jon Coen, Men’s Journal contributor
