Grundens Solstrale Hoodie
GET ITOf all the layers we packed on a month-long canoe expedition in Labrador last summer, the Grundens Solstrale Hoodie proved to be most versatile. Marketed as a sun shirt for anglers, this lightweight, long-sleeve hoodie has the personality of a chameleon. It excelled at keeping us sheltered from the sun during the day, with impressive breathability that kept us cool even on hot days. It also worked exceptionally well for bug-protection (a critical concern in Canada’s north) with a chin-guard collar and a tight hood that forms an effective seal against UV radiation and mosquitoes around the forehead and sideburns.
What’s more, the Solstrale emerged as a favorite base layer for sleeping as well, providing warmth and comfort on cool nights. Anti-odor treatment to the polyester fabric kept the Solstrale stink-free for weeks. No doubt our mission pushed the limits and pushed the versatility of this garment; it’s a must-have for outdoor activity in any sun-baked environment.—Conor Mihell, Men’s Journal contributor
