New Balance FuelCell RebelGet It
Every runner strives to be faster and more efficient—to push their performance to new heights. New Balance hopes to be the defining factor that makes that possible, with the launch of their new product line FuelCell. The hallmark of the collection is the eponymous foam, boasting the brand’s highest rebound to date (20% more).
The premier product in the line is FuelCell 5280 (launching September 2019), geared toward elite runners. In order to get the performance benefits of the carbon-plate-boosted shoe, designers say athletes—amateur and professional alike—need to be able to clock 5:30-minute miles. But don’t sweat if you’re not there yet.
The first product to hit the market, FuelCell Rebel, drops June 5 (National Running Day) and is targeted toward everyday runners who want a speedier training shoe in their arsenal. New Balance used data from their athletes’ form and performance to make nuanced changes and strategic decisions on shape, fit, and traction. FuelCell technology in the forefoot gives that bouncy, fluid running experience, while a unique traction pattern underfoot benefits mid- and forefoot strikers. The knit upper lends lightness, breathability, and a chafe-free fit. After all, you never want to feel a running shoe. Once you toe-off, you want to forget all about what’s on your feet so you can focus on the goal at hand: full-throttle speed. — Brittany Smith, Senior Editor
