LG G6 Signature OLED 4K Smart TV
As always, CES was full of great TVs. None were as great as LG’s Signature OLED, a 55-, 65-, or 75-inch panel that displayed the inky blacks that we’ve come to love and expect from organically light-emitting diode screens, and whose design inspired wide-eyed, slack-jawed awe. It’s just 2.53mm thick, or less than half the depth of an iPhone 6s. It has a small hump, but most of the Signature OLED’s bulky components sit in the striated, radiator-like base, which also houses substantial speakers (the speaker base can fold behind the screen for wall-hanging). The effect doesn’t translate well in description, or in photos, but it legitimately looks like a sheet of glass filled with light. And the on-screen picture is surrounded by a bezel of that translucent glass. The picture quality is stunning, too, with the peerless contrast that comes from OLED’s lack of a backlight and corresponding light bleed, and its ability to turn off individual pixels, generating true black. 4K content might be few and far between, but we’re guessing no content, whatever the resolution, will look as good as it does on this set. LG hasn’t announced the release date or price, giving us plenty of time to buy a whole bunch of lottery tickets. [lg.com]
