3. Adventurer by TomTom
This slim, sleek smartwatch is more of a fitness tracker than a rugged outdoor adventurer, but it’s packed with features you’d need in the backcountry. It definitely has a sportier look than others I tested—and its lighter, smaller profile makes it easy to slip under a tighter cuff or glove. (That said, I’m not sure I’d wear it with a suit.)
This is an all-rounder athlete’s watch. The Adventurer features dedicated modes for workouts, running, cycling, trail running, hiking, skiing/snowboarding, and indoor running or cycling. It has GPS, custom training modes for advanced athletes, a built-in heart-rate monitor (with five training zones), and more than 50 workouts all ready to go. A cool Fitness Age feature analyzes your workouts and assigns you a Fitness Age based on other people’s stats, and the TomTom Sports app helps you relive your exploits in greater detail.
Bottom line: This stout-hearted little watch has all the features of a bigger outdoors model, but easier to wear—and at a much friendlier price point. ($349.99, tomtom.com)
