A Small Bluetooth Speaker You Can Take Anywhere
We used to dismiss the little Bluetooth speaker — with its wimpy noise, and worthless battery life — but designers have seemingly got wise to the complaints and are coming out with a slew of great little sound boxes you can take with you anywhere. The ALL-Terrain Sound Speaker is another success in this category.
RELATED: A Tiny Speaker that Rocks
Sporting a battery life of 12 hours of continuous play, this speaker fully charges in 90 minutes and fits flat in your palm. A carabiner attachment means you can clip it to your backpack or bicycle, and its ability to play even while submerged means a soundtrack can accompany you on river runs and days on the lake (and turns into a speakerphone when you don’t want your phone near the action). Turn the speaker on its side, and you can access the play, skip, and other buttons. And aside from the tech, the ruggedized tire-like exterior reduces shock damage. The Sound works well indoors, too: It comes with an attachable suction cup to adhere it to smooth surfaces in your kitchen. We even took it in the shower to listen to music, and later that day, camping in upstate New York. It was a perfect campfire accompaniment: We put it to the test by throwing it in a Catskills lake and were pleased to find that it not only held up in the water, but it also floated.
The ALL-Terrain Sound is less expensive than many of the other wireless Bluetooth units we’ve tested. And taking its size and portability into consideration, we were impressed by the overall sound quality and volume — especially when you remember that you can drop it in the water without interrupting your favorite song.
