Patagonia Piton Hybrid Hoody
Everyone knows that the dress code for adventure is layers — wearing a versatile enough combo of clothing that you can add and subtract quickly as conditions change. Patagonia’s new Piton Hybrid is the layer you never take off. It’s thin and stretchy enough to work as a beefed-up baselayer, yet the “Wind Pro” fabric makes it nearly as wind-resistant as a softshell. The “Hardface” technology makes it much more durable than your average fleece, and a DWR finish repels moisture, without giving it the stiffness of other layers that do the same things. This thing feels like a full-on outer layer, while being comfortable enough to sleep in. The Piton is not meant to do the job of all these different layers, but it can do the job of any one of them, only better. [$179; patagonia.com]
TIP: Comfort is just as important as technology — seek out layers that you feel you can “live” in for weeks on end.
