Giro Switchblade Mountain Bike Helmet
The coolest thing about the Switchblade is that it gets a removable chinbar. If you’re into aggressive riding you know a chin bar can be the difference between a very expensive dental bill and escaping unscathed, but most removable bars haven’t been very convenient to use; and not removing one makes for a very hot helmet when climbing. The Switchblade’s removable design is super simple to use, and once removed, the helmet is both lighter and more comfortable for climbing, and in fact becomes suitable for less hairy singletrack shredding. Still, it’s ASTM certified for down-hilling, and that’s the case with or without the chin bar installed. It also gets integrated MIPS tech. [Available October; $250; giro.com]
