Redington Zero Fly Reel
In the world of fly-fishing, click-and-pawl reels have made something of a comeback the past couple years. Unlike now-standard disc-drag reels, click-and-pawls don’t have adjustable resistance, requiring anglers to palm the reel should they hook a big enough fish. Though click-and-pawls are far more basic than disc-drag models, anglers prefer them for their simplicity and readability, and for nostalgia’s sake, since a lot of folks get their start using them; I did. Plus, click-and-pawls tend to be relatively affordable, a rarity in fly-fishing. Continuing the click-and-pawl trend, Redington has rolled out a new teal version of the Zero, for peacocking a bit on the water. It’s super smooth and has a large arbor and die-cast construction. It also comes with a lifetime warranty, should you somehow manage to break it. I’m fully aboard the click-and-pawl bandwagon and intend to put this sweet little reel through its paces this season. —J.R. Sullivan, Senior Editor
